Lydney Group - Set To Break £30 Million Barrier
Doubling
the size of its manufacturing bases in Gloucestershire and
Lancashire in 2007 has put portable steel building specialists
Lydney Group on track for a turnover of £30million for the first
time in its 25 years’ history.
The company, incorporating Lydney Modular and Lydney Container
divisions, now employs 163 in Lydney, Gloucestershire, and 85 in
Skelmersdale, Lancs, and is the UK’s largest supplier of steel
portable accommodation and anti-vandal storage containers.
This year’s record turnover is supported by the company’s recent
move from a 42,000 sq ft site at Newton le Willows to the 84,000 sq
ft Skelmersdale site, and expanding its Lydney site from 65,000 sq
ft to 123,000 sq ft, creating 51 new jobs across the board. Its
range of tough welded steel units include industrial storage,
welfare units, canteens, offices, classrooms, toilets, shower blocks
and changing rooms, up to three stories high, and modular
steel-framed accommodation units up to four stories high.
“The main growth area for the group is in modular buildings though,”
said MD Andy Burrow. “And whilst that has initially been in the
construction, education and medical sectors, we are able to service
a wide range of customer requirements.”
“2008 is set to become our best year ever with annual turnover
jumping from just over £24million to over £30million for the first
time. When I joined the company in 2000, the turnover was
£12million.
“Our main strengths over our competitors lie in our ability to
finish products on site to a high standard because of our great
teams at Lydney and Skelmersdale and in the variety of products,
speed of installation and value for money.
“All our all-metal units are welded in top quality steel and come
with a 12 months warranty. Our galvanised steel-framed, panelled
modular buildings also come with a 15 year guarantee on the frames
and 12 months on the panels.
“By having two manufacturing sites in the UK we also cut the cost of
transportation for our customers, which can be a major expense.
“With the modular building range, it is also easy to replace
individual panels in case of damage at a later date. They just bolt
on and of course it is very easy to refurbish or modify the building
at any time in the future.
“And, once on site, installation is very fast. It’s just like a
giant Meccano set.
You only have to prepare the ground - it’s true off-site
construction. Once installed all we have to do is cap the joints,
finish the floor and just ‘wash and go’ for a turnkey operation.
“Our ISO 14001 environmental management accreditation should be in
place by the end of the year and we have been working closely with
our customers to incorporate environmental technologies into our
products. For instance we are the first supplier to offer double
glazed windows as standard in our steel units.
“We are also looking at green options such as energy-saving movement
sensors which switch the lights off if there is no movement after a
certain length of time and we have been investigating under-floor
heating, wind turbines and water saving technologies within the
modular buildings and are working with our customers to include
these in the near future.
“For installation we have our own Lifting Services Division with a
new HB45 mobile crane which is also available for hire separately.
“What we strive to do at Lydney Group is to deliver the best
possible product and service to our customer requirements and it is
consistently delivering these objectives that has allowed us to grow
and be successful.”
