MERCHISTON CASTLE SCHOOL, EDINBURGH, KICKS OFF TOUR IN STYLE
THANKS TO MILLER SPONSORSHIP
 Merchiston Castle School’s rugby players will be well
prepared for their forthcoming South American tour
thanks to sponsorship from Miller Construction.
The leading construction firm has sponsored playing kits
for two teams of sixth form boys in advance of their
August tour. Its logo will remain on the strips until
the end of the 2009/10 season.
Mark Appleson, Director of Rugby for Merchiston Castle
School, said: “The boys are encouraged to use their own
initiative to approach local companies for sponsorship,
and they contacted Miller Construction themselves.
“Rugby is one of our major sports, helping to earn the
school a first-class reputation, and we are delighted
that Miller Construction has recognised this and agreed
to support our teams.”
Rugby has been the hot topic on every Scot’s lips after
Scotland’s recent Calcutta Cup win over England –
Scotland coach Frank Hadden has links with Merchiston
Castle School’s rugby team, having coached its first XV
during his time as Head of Physical Education at the
school in the 80s and 90s.
Vic Richardson, Regional Director, Miller Construction,
said: “We are proud to sponsor Merchiston Castle
School’s rugby team and we wish them well as they embark
on their South American tour – hopefully the
Miller-sponsored strips will bring them luck throughout
the season.”
Miller Construction is the main contractor building the
school’s new £7m sixth form residences.
