Polyflor - Space age style for children’s unit

colours from the Polyflor XL PU range of lower
maintenance heavy duty sheet vinyl flooring have been
used to create eye catching inset images of planets,
suns and spaceships at the observation and assessment
unit of the Royal Bolton Hospital Children’s A&E
Department.
“Our aim was to create a warm and friendly ambience for
the unit and the XL PU colour palette proved ideal in
helping us achieve this objective,” said Vivienne Davies
from local architects Bradshaw, Gass and Hope.
The images were created via the Polyflor Expressions
Design Service, which uses computerised water jet
cutting techniques to produce precise shapes and styles
for inlaid decoration. The flooring was installed by
Bolton-based flooring contractor Diamond Flooring, who
also fitted low maintenance Polysafe Corona sheet vinyl
safety flooring in the unit’s treatment rooms.
Meeting the performance requirements of EN 649, Polyflor
XL PU features a specially formulated polyurethane
surface treatment - reducing maintenance costs by up to
24% by improving the soil resistance and cleanability of
the floor. The range
offers a choice of 24 attractive colourways and of 1.5mm
and 2mm gauges to suit differing traffic levels.
Combining the latest advanced performance and
maintenance technology with a superbly fresh colour
palette, Polysafe Corona incorporates Supratec+, the
second generation of Polyflor’s unique soil releasing
polymer system, now including polyurethane for reduced
dirt pick up and even easier maintenance. This means
that Corona can offer cleaning cost savings of up to 60%
over traditional safety flooring over a 15 year period.
The range also features an advanced formulation,
providing enhanced flexibility for even easier fitting
and welding. As well as being BBA Agrément certified as
G5ws, Corona provides sustainable slip resistance
throughout its guaranteed life, achieving 36 on the RRL
Pendulum wet test (Four-S/Slider 96 rubber). This,
combined with a surface roughness of
Rz 20µm, ensures that Corona complies with Health and
Safety Executive guidance and with EN 13845, the
European Norm for Safety Flooring.
The practical appeal of the range is matched by its
aesthetic appearance - a superb choice of 12 fresh,
vivid colours, carefully chosen to complement shades
available in Prestige PUR and XL PU – two of Polyflor’s
heavy duty smooth ranges of commercial floor coverings,
thus enabling architects and designers to co-ordinate
and contrast colours in different use areas.
Polyflor XL PU and Polysafe Corona are fully tested to
fire safety standard EN 13501-1, are certified as Class
Bfl-S1, achieving the criteria EN ISO 9239-1 > 8kw/m2
and the mandatory requirement of EN ISO 11925-2 pass.
Both have been independently tested and results
demonstrate that they inhibit the growth of MRSA. An
effective cleaning regime is, however, the most
important defence against infection.
In common with all Polyflor sheet vinyl floorcoverings,
both can be welded at the seams and to coved skirtings
to create continuous, impervious surfaces which offer no
sanctuary to dirt and bacteria.
