STORMSAVER GOES BACK TO SCHOOL

Stormsaver’s Michael Farnsworth has literally gone back to school with the company’s latest rainwater harvesting system installation.
The Director of the UK’s leading designer and manufacturer of rainwater harvesting solutions attended Netherfield Primary School in Nottingham as a child, where the company’s latest system has been installed.
As well as designing the building’s new rainwater harvesting system, Stormsaver also donated one of its unique Education Packages to the school.
A digital display system, which records how much rainwater has been collected and re-used, is accompanied by a Teachers’ Guide, containing a variety of lesson plans and activities all written to dovetail with the National Curriculum.
Stormsaver was commissioned by Nottinghamshire County Council, which has used the company’s rainwater harvesting systems in a total of 14 schools previously.
“We have a long-standing relationship with Nottinghamshire County Council and always set out to deliver the best possible solution to their needs” says Michael. “But when we were approached to develop a system for my old school I really wanted to give something back. I am pleased we’ve been able to design a system that will help the school maximise its use of rainwater and also make this donation which will bring the system and concept of rainwater harvesting to life for the children. It was inspiring going back to Netherfield School. It brought a lot of very fond memories flooding back!”
Water captured by the Stormsaver system from the building’s 994m2 roof will be used in the flushing of WCs and urinals, reducing the cost of mains water by over £1,000 per annum.
Nottinghamshire County Council’s architect for the Netherfield School project, Stella Rousou, said: “As a local authority we’re committed to environmental best practice and to educating the people within the county on the need to conserve, reuse and recycle wherever possible. This philosophy is very much part of our approach to both new builds and renovations such as that at Netherfield School. The Stormsaver system is integral to that approach. It’s great that the company decided to make this donation – not everyone would of been so generous.”
Nottinghamshire County Council’s Electrical Engineer, Iain McLeod added: “The Stormsaver system is extremely well thought out in the way it operates and meets regulations. The company remains involved throughout development and listens to the client. A lot of thought has also gone into the development of the Educational Package. We’re sure the staff and pupils will really enjoy seeing how much rainfall they’ve captured and reused.”
Furthermore, last month in Manchester, one of the Council's Framework Contractors, G F Tomlinsons in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council were short-listed by The British Council for School Environments (BCSE) in the “Best School Contractor” category for their work on this School. Whilst not being the outright winner of the category, Netherfield achieved a "Highly Commended" rating with Ty Goddard, the Director of the BCSE, describing the project as "gorgeous and sensitive to user needs".He added: “It demonstrates that working in partnership enhances the way we all work to ensure the delivery of quality schemes which are completed on time, within the budgeted cost and to the highest quality standards. It is also a good example of the ongoing design quality emerging from the Design & Procurement Group within the Property Division with many new buildings achieving the similar "wow" factor so often commented on."
