MCKEAN GROUP BUILDS ON SUCCESSFUL FOUNDATIONS
The McKean Group, which carries out both principal
and specialist contracting works within the construction
industry, today issued a trading update ahead of its
final results for the year to December 2007, due to be
released in May.
Commenting on trading and future prospects, McKean Group
Director, David Noar, said: “This is a very exciting
time for the group. All divisions are performing well in
an increasingly competitive market and are on course to
deliver a significant increase in turnover and profits.
The exemplary reputation that we have built within the
industry is reflected in the number of high profile
contracts that we have completed in the last two years,
worth £77 million, and the £25 million worth of business
we have already secured across the group in 2008.
“The combination of specialisms and expertise throughout
the group allows for a variety of contracts to be
undertaken and our versatility and ability to respond to
clients’ needs has also been integral to our success.
Despite the anticipated economic slowdown, I am
confident the group will continue to thrive in 2008 as
we strive to become the benchmark for excellence within
the construction industry.
“With success comes expansion, and over the coming
months we will be actively looking to recruit the finest
talent from across the construction industry to fill
newly created vacancies across all divisions of the
business.”
Specific comments on each of the businesses within the
group – McKean and Company (Glasgow) Ltd, Mayfield
Construction Company Ltd and the Hudson Group – are as
follows:-
McKean & Company (Glasgow)
The completion of £37 million worth of contracts in
Scotland over the past two years has put McKean &
Company on course for a significant increase in
turnover. The company delivered a variety of both civil
engineering and building orientated projects, working
alongside a number of blue chip clients, including
private and commercial developers and contractors, as
well as local authorities.
Work recently began on a £1.8 million project in Glasgow
city centre’s St George’s Tron Parish Church, whilst
work is about to get underway on a £1.4 million design
and build car park for Renfrewshire Council. In
addition, a number of specialist contracts are currently
ongoing in Edinburgh and the Lothians and the company is
hoping to secure a prestigious £3 million development at
Eurocentral.
Mayfield Construction Company (Liverpool)
Mayfield Construction’s financial growth has been aided
by the completion of £35 million worth of contracts in
the past two years.
In 2005, Mayfield’s civil engineering team completed a
£1 million contract to provide new paving, footpaths and
foundations for student accommodation at Lancaster
University for Norwest Holst, as well as delivering
phases two and three in successive years. In 2006, a £3
million project to build 64,000 sqft of office buildings
in Martland Point, Wigan, for Langtree Developments was
among the projects undertaken by the contemporary
building team, who also secured a number of high profile
contracts recently, including a £6 million scheme to
build a four-storey office block for Neptune
Developments at Liverpool Science Park as well as £1
million project for Taywood in St. Helens Hospital.
Mayfield’s concrete flooring division is also involved
in a £7 million contract to provide 130,000 sqm of
concrete flooring at a new development in Birmingham’s
Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the hard landscaping team
has just completed the multi-award winning £7 million
Focal Point contract, working in partnership with St
Helens Borough Council.
Hudson Group (Glasgow)
Hudson Group provides along with facilities management.
The company has made steady progress over the past two
years with a number of significant contract wins worth
£5 million. These include a £320k kitchen refurbishment
contract for City of Edinburgh Council, a £60k building
and electrical alterations contract with Scottish Prison
Service, a £150k contract for a full electrical fit-out
of the new Parcel Force Depot in Cambuslang for R&R
Construction. Work has also been secured by Hudson Group
