New Appointment DAVID WHITLOW, MANAGING DIRECTOR SOCOMEC SICON

PROFILE
• David Whitlow was born and educated in the UK where he
studied Electrical and Electronics Engineering. He began
his sales and marketing career in the electrical
industry some 20+ years ago and worked for around 13
years in the LV/MV switchgear and distribution sector.
He was previously working in the UK for 8 years with a
leading UPS provider and has been involved in delivering
computer, IT and data centre solutions of up to 10MVA of
UPS. In 2006 David moved to India with his family to
become the Managing Director of Socomec-Numeric PVT Ltd
and was based at their headquarters in Chennai,
responsible for starting the joint venture for Socomec
where he helped create a business of around €12m in the
first year and developed an organization of around 100
people. In May 2007, David returned to Cirencester to
manage the UK subsidiary of Socomec and to spearhead the
growth and continued expansion as one of the leading UK
mission critical UPS providers. This year sees the move
for the company to new premises as its reputation for
industry leading products and the highest level of
service provision grows rapidly.
• Socomec SA is a privately owned company founded in
1922 and has two divisions, Socomec Sicon and Socomec
SCP which design, manufacture and install UPS and power
conversion systems and switchgear products. Socomec SA
employs around 2000 people and has an expected annual
turnover for 2007 in excess of €300M. It has
subsidiaries across Europe, Asia and South America with
manufacturing plants in Europe (5), Tunisia (1) and
India (2)
STATEMENT

continuous innovation in the design and manufacture of
its UPS systems and solutions have enabled it to develop
the unique features that provide significant
improvements in performance and cost of ownership to the
most demanding of clients where mission critical,
faultless power quality is an absolute requirement. But
our clients also recognize and demand more than just
high quality uninterrupted power. As the cost of energy
continues to increase dramatically so does the
expectation to have the most efficient UPS systems
available which can also provide dynamic power
management at the varying loads levels that the UPS
system may experience, not just at day one, but through
its entire life cycle whilst also providing the highest
level of resilience and a preventative maintenance
regime that caters for zero downtime. Socomec in the UK
has developed a number of initiatives such as CPD
seminars which enable us to explain the key factors in
UPS architectures which enable fault tolerant, full
redundancy without the sacrifice of high efficiency and
performance.
As part of our consistent growth Socomec Sicon Ltd are
in the process of moving to larger corporate premises
where one of the key areas will be our customer show
room and demonstration area where we can continue to
bring the technology closer to our clients and so
support their needs further. We believe our continued
and sustainable growth in the UK market is not only
testament to the products
and solutions we are able to offer but also in the
expertise and after sales support with which we provide
the confidence the users need to place in us as a
service provider.
Being an independent manufacturer allows us to remain a
specialist in the UPS industry and our knowledge and
expertise has been recognized in recent years with
awards from Frost & Sullivan for ‘Excellence in Customer
Service’ and ‘Product Innovation’ for our battery less
DC storage device VSS+DC.”
