construction company that chose to use skip alternative
HIPPOBAGs™ as its waste disposal solution on a large
refurbishment project in West London, has been rewarded
with a huge boost to its environmental credentials.
National waste management firm HIPPOWASTE™ was chosen by
Connaught to supply the innovative HIPPOBAGs™ at the
Ealing Homes site where work is being carried out as
part of the Government’s Decent Homes initiative.
Recognising their corporate social responsibilities,
Connaught is a member of
the Considerate Constructors Scheme and is regularly
monitored and scored for criteria such as cleanliness,
safety, and care of the environment. By usingHIPPOBAGs™
on this job, Connaught virtually hit the jackpot.
They were awarded a very impressive 4.5 out of 5 in the
environmental category, an improvement on
the previous score when the company used more
traditional methods of waste disposal. Connaught’s
contracts manager Dave Royce pointed out that
“HIPPOWASTE™ ticked all the boxes; “The waste containers
were flat-packed so they could be stored on site. When
they were full, the company was able to collect several
bags at once - so there were fewer vehicles moving about
- and that’s always good for reducing our carbon
footprint and keeping good relations with local
residents.”
Even the Considerate Constructors Scheme auditor
highlighted the advantages of the HIPPOBAG™ system
saying it had saved space on site and eliminated
multiple skip runs. HIPPOWASTE’s™ Head of Sales Ben
Clark was delighted with the news; “This is a great
example of HIPPOBAGs™ in action. The bags have come into
their own on this site by proving themselves once again
to be versatile, convenient and ecologically economic.
The score the auditor awarded Connaught reflects that”.
Unlike skips, HIPPOBAGs™ can be put in areas with
restricted space and the purpose-built HIPPOWASTE™
vehicles can remove the bags from tight locations. Once
full, the bag and its contents are collected, taken away
and disposed of in a responsible way via the HIPPOWASTE™
collection service with an average of over 80% of
materials recycled.
The HIPPOBAG™ makes the disposal of waste easier than
ever before for a broad spectrum of trade partners from
those involved in large scale renovation projects to
those who need a smaller scale waste removal solution at
home.
