NEW THAMES GATEWAY ACADEMY HEATING KEPT UNDER CONTROL WITH
OVENTROP VALVES
 Based
on almost ten years experience of using Oventrop valves,
mechanical engineers Lorne Stewart selected them for the
heating and domestic hot water systems at the new £28
million Gateway Academy for Thurrock Council near
Tilbury in Essex.
From the air the building has a letter "G" configuration
and an external services room for all incoming services.
From this, services are fed underground and upwards
internally to four service rooms, in roof void areas.
These have boilers and tanks to serve the building's
heating requirements. System design was by consulting
engineers Barn Partnership, High Wycombe and the
architects were Lyster, Grillet & Harding, Cambridge.
Oventrop valves have been used throughout and include
butterfly and ball isolation, check valves, strainers,
drain cocks and commissioning valves. Additionally, 300
Brawamix thermostatic mixing valves have been supplied
for hot water temperature control to wash basins. 260
radiators are fitted with presettable AV6 thermostatic
radiator valves complete with Uni-LGH heads and Combi 4
lockshield valves. 120 radiant panels are all equipped
with Oventrop isolating valves and commissioning sets
and Oventrop gas valves have been used in the plant room
and service rooms.
The Academy represents the community’s first tangible
sign of the Thames Gateway regeneration and will provide
access to state-of-the-art facilities which include 7
fully equipped science suites, computer and engineering
facilities, two drama studios and a large sports hall
with a gymnasium. Additionally there is a dance studio,
a multi-purpose theatre and two industry standard
hospitality and catering suites.
