Local Architects Strengthens its ‘Eco Guardian’ Status as new
Government Initiative Comes into Force

West based ARK Design and Architecture boosts the ‘green’ agenda in
the region with the latest accreditation of yet another employee,
achieving the much sought-after Code Assessor status.
Paul Pilkinton, who has been granted Code Assessor status,
strengthens the team at ARK and will be advising on the Governments
latest green initiative – the Code for Sustainable Homes which
impacts all new build housing from 1 May 08.
The Code for Sustainable Homes introduces minimum standards for
energy and water efficiency at every level of the new national
standard. The Code measures the sustainability of a home against key
design categories, rating the 'whole home' as a complete package.
The minimum standards for Code compliance have been set above the
requirements of Building Regulations. New homes can achieve a rating
on a scale of one to six 'Code Levels' depending on the standard
achieved.
Homes are assessed at design stage and require verification at
post-completion stage.
And from May 1st 2008, all new built homes in England will require a
Code rating.
