West Cumberland Hospital Gets The Ardex Treatment
 The
West Cumberland Hospital at Whitehaven, Cumbria has recently
undertaken an extensive refurbishment project, taking in the Breast
Screening Clinic, and a number of hospital wards. In order to fulfil
the exacting flooring requirements of this demanding environment,
the hospital drew upon the proven results of ARDEX UK to ensure that
the specific flooring needs could be met.
ARDEX worked in conjunction with flooring contractors TT Flooring of
Workington, who were commissioned to install the floorcoverings.
They commenced by applying ARDEX’s advanced levelling compound ARDEX
K 15-B to the sub-floors. ARDEX K 15-B has been specifically
designed for thicker levelling applications from 7mm to 35mm and is
perfect for use in installations where fast track performance is
necessary, as it combines innovation, cost effectiveness and ease of
use to deliver excellent results. The unique ARDEX Rapidry Formula
technology, incorporated within ARDEX K 15-B ensured rapid drying
and hardening, so that it was hard enough to walk on just 2 hours
after application.
The prepared sub-floor was then ready to receive ARDEX K 15, the
market leading water based self-levelling smoothing compound. The
required smooth, hard and flat finish was provided, which was once
again walkable after just 2 hours, and ready to receive final
floorcoverings within 24 hours.
Products from ARDEX’s outstanding flooring adhesives range were
specified to install several different types of floorcoverings.
Designed for the UK market, ARDEX flooring adhesives have solvent
free formulations with low odour and high yield, making them perfect
for use within hospital locations.
To fix the high performance, low maintenance, Polyflor sheet vinyls
within the Breast Screening Clinic, ARDEX AF 150 adhesive for PVC
sheet and tiles was specified. ARDEX AF 150 incorporates the latest
floorcovering adhesives technology and is ideal for use with
PVC/vinyl floorcoverings including tiles and sheet with PVC or foam
backings.
The hospital wards were fitted with Polyflor Classic Mystique PUR
flooring, which was installed using ARDEX AF 100 Pressure Sensitive
Acrylic Flooring Adhesive. Architects, specifiers and contractors
recognise ARDEX AF 100 as the flooring industry’s most advanced true
pressure sensitive adhesive, and as predicted, it proved perfect for
use within the wards, where hospital beds place an increased demand
upon the floorcoverings.
To complete, ARDEX AF 650 Heavy Duty Contact Adhesive was used to
fix the PVC skirting. A heavy duty neoprene contact adhesive, ideal
for fixing PVC and rubber floorcoverings, stair nosings, PVC
skirting, stair stringers and cork with natural cork backing, ARDEX
AF 650 is easy to apply and offers a permanent bond.
