GRONTMIJ LANDS BUILT ENVIRONMENT SPECIALIST
 Grontmij,
one of Europe’s leading engineering consultancies, has appointed
built environment specialist Dennis Markey to head up its new Built
and Natural Environment division.
Following three substantial acquisitions earlier this year, Grontmij
is launching the new division to combine and coordinate existing
skills within its building and environment areas of expertise, with
specialist knowledge from acquired companies Whitelaw Turkington and
Roger Preston and Partners.
The Built and Natural Environment division will bring together these
skills to provide a sustainable solution for clients, with a
comprehensive range of services dedicated to carbon management and
reduction. The team will evaluate ways to develop environments from
the initial land remediation, through to land development, ensuring
a minimal carbon footprint during the process and for the future.
Mr Markey joins from Alfred McAlpine plc, where he was Managing
Director of Enviros and had responsibility for all employees across
the UK and internationally. Prior to his role at Enviros, he held
senior positions with Hazell Carr (financial services provider),
Capita Group (outsourcing company), Telewest Communications and
various surveying practices.
In his previous roles Mr Markey took responsibility for driving
change, integrating businesses post-acquisition, developing the
business, managing projects and developing employees. At Grontmij he
will use his expertise to integrate the existing specialist areas
and develop a cohesive service in the marketplace.
Lawrence Hughes, Grontmij’s managing director for UK and Ireland,

Mr Markey, who will be based at the Roger Preston and Partners
offices in Maidenhead, said: “I’m very excited about this new
challenge to integrate these services together which will be a great
advantage for our clients. The division will include market leaders
and experts in building, environment, land regeneration and
development, and I’m looking forward to coordinating them on
upcoming projects.”
Grontmij provides a multi-disciplinary engineering and environmental
consultancy service plus a comprehensive range of business planning
and management solutions.
Grontmij is a Dutch owned engineering consultancy employing over
8,000 professional consultants worldwide working across six main
disciplines of water, transportation, energy, building, environment
and industry. In the UK and Ireland, Grontmij is also complimented
by recent acquisitions, landscape architects Whitelaw Turkington,
contract dispute specialists Trett Consulting and building services
specialists Roger Preston and Partners, which continue to operate
under their existing brand names.
