WORLD WIDE WINDOW SKILL BENEFITS UK HOUSE BUILDERS

trio of new products from UK-based international building systems
company L.B. Plastics is addressing the green building challenges
worldwide.
The company has launched its Sheerframe HED window system in the UK
– the first to achieve 0.8W/m2K – following the launch of a 0.8
PassivHaus window in the European market and a new US custom suite
of windows designed to withstand the increasing incidence of
hurricane force winds and which meets the Dade County Standard for
hurricane resistance.
According to Group managing director James Litchfield, the move,
part of a multi-million pound worldwide development programme,
reflects the commitment of the business as a genuine solutions
provider.
“As times tighten for house builders in the UK, they are looking for
supply partners who can make a genuine contribution to their bottom
line, not simply by hacking prices to the bone but by adding value
and solving problems. The difficulty many suppliers face is that,
having priced too low for too long, they simply don’t have the
resources to invest in the solutions approach which the building
industry increasingly demands.
“Our experience is that, by working closely with the major players
and other innovators in the sector, we can really add value and that
is proving to be the case not just in the UK but in Europe and the
States too. These latest developments put us at the cutting edge of
worldwide windows markets.”
The new Sheerframe HED (Homogenous Energy Dynamics) system, launched
this summer, creates stronger, lighter and significantly more
thermally efficient windows, offering house builders a simple and
cost effective route to achieving window U-values of just 0.8W/m2K
in their drive towards viable zero carbon homes. Such a low U value
is equivalent to the rating required for Category 5 and 6 star rated
dwellings in the Code for Sustainable Homes.
Sheerframe HED allows window U-values to be cut significantly while
still providing homebuyers with low maintenance, visually appealing
and enhanced security windows designed to cut energy bills. Like all
Sheerframe systems, broader sustainability issues are also
comprehensively addressed - the profile is lead-free in composition
and 100% recyclable.
Earlier this year via its German and Polish companies, the Group
used the world’s leading fenestration show, Fensterbau, to launch an
80mm seven chamber system profile for the European tilt and turn
market, which meets PassivHaus standards. The product, which is a
mainstream system that can be up-rated to meet PassivHaus standards,
achieves a 0.69W/m2K U-Value.
Says James Litchfield, “In the US the issues and markets are
different but the development work we do there successfully
transfers into the UK too, to the benefit of house builders.
Sheerframe windows for the UK market have been demonstrated to
perform effectively against air and water ingress when tested
against the winds equivalent to the strongest ever recorded in the
UK.”
