Designers Saturday to unveil innovations in workplace design
29 July 2008: Designers Saturday, the workplace design event taking
place on 26 and 27 September, has released further information on
what visitors can expect over the two days in central London. The
eleven participants have announced that they will each have their
own theme for the event, which will explore the different ways that
today’s work environment is shaping workplace design and
architecture.
Each participant has chosen a theme which is particularly relevant
to them as a company and which offers both fun and educational
elements. Here’s a flavour of what can be experienced at each
showroom:
Ahrend will be investigating ‘World wide working’, looking at how
the global economy has affected working styles, design and
technology.
Bisley will be demonstrating how to combine stylish design with
manufacturing and engineering, bringing elements of the factory to
the showroom and unveiling a number of new products.
Faram is asking ‘What’s so good about glass?’ showing the endless
possibilities of using glass in the modern office.
Herman Miller’s showroom will be transformed into a 1960's Formula 1
race track as part of a display of dedication to research and
original design.
Haworth will present ‘Home Sweet Home’, an interactive concept
giving visitors the opportunity to design and construct their own
building in an urban landscape.
KI will be inviting visitors to interact with, and explore ideas
relating to Time and Space - with a little help from Dr Who and a
few of his associates. KI is also fully refurbishing its Showrooms.
Giant Jenga challenges and Dalek racing also await you!
Kinnarps has teamed up with the Royal College of Art (RCA) to bring
‘Welcoming Workplace’, a piece of research exploring the future
workplace for an ageing population.
Knoll will be bringing its Liberty exhibition to the Smithfield
showroom, showcasing 70 years of design alongside its latest
collections.
Sedus - Can the office look and sound good? This hot topic will be
the focus at the Sedus showroom. Noise costs business a distracting
£139bn and office workers can lose up to two hours each working day
through broken concentration. Sedus, in association with Acoustic
Comfort Ltd, will help you understand why acoustic issues cannot be
ignored in designing comfortable and productive work spaces.
Steelcase will be looking at future generations of the workforce
with a fascinating ‘Make Way For The Millennials’ theme, showcasing
the latest technologies designed to cater for the newest generation
of workers.
The event aims to focus on more educational activities on the
Friday, with many CPD accredited speeches. In contrast, the Saturday
will offer more fun and family orientated activities. Visitors will
be encouraged to travel between showrooms over one or two days, with
transport provided.
Designers Saturday can also announce that a new addition to the
line-up is Humanscale, which will be unveiling its new showroom on
Northburgh Street in Clerkenwell.
