Design and engineering specialist MPS helps parent company
Morgan Sindall’s record results
 Design, engineering and project management specialist Morgan
Professional Services (MPS) has contributed to a record set of
half-year results released today (4 August 2008) by parent
construction and regeneration group Morgan Sindall plc.
Morgan Sindall, which operates through five specialist divisions of
fit out, construction, infrastructure services, affordable housing
and urban regeneration, has today announced record results for the
six months to 30 June 2008. Profit before tax and amortisation of
intangible assets rose by 31 per to £33.1 million (2007: £25.2
million) on an increased revenue of £1.24 billion up 48 per cent
from £836 million for the corresponding period last year. The
Group’s forward order book stands at £4.2 billion (2007: £4.1
billion). Adjusted earnings per share for the period grew by 48 per
cent to 60.9p per share (2007: 41.1p). The Board has declared an
increased interim dividend of 12.0p up 20 per cent from 10.0p in
2007.
MPS, which provides design, engineering and project management
services to the manufacturing, environmental, nuclear, transport and
public sectors, has made a solid contribution to its parent
company’s interim results.
Key projects for MPS include the design of a £100 million campus in
Hatfield, Hertfordshire, for Eisai, one of the world’s leading
pharmaceutical companies. The new facility will include the
company’s European headquarters, discovery research, clinical
development, and manufacturing. The site will also house the UK
sales and marketing operations.
Other major projects include the design of pharmaceuticals company
AstraZeneca’s £60 million new process development laboratory at
Macclesfield, Cheshire, using advanced modular construction
techniques and state-of-the-art flexible design solutions. This
project forms part of a 20-year relationship with AstraZeneca.
Another key success for MPS has been the renewal of the framework
agreement by which the company’s Swiss office is a global partner
for international pharmaceuticals company Novartis, providing design
and engineering support to projects around the world. In the
manufacturing sector, MPS is designing a low-carbon ‘factory of the
future’ for Airbus as part of a major programme to revolutionise
aircraft wing technology which is backed by £103 million of
Government, industrial and regional investment. This strategically
important project follows MPS’ involvement with Airbus on the A380
programme. MPS is also supporting Airbus in the concept design of
proposed new manufacturing facilities for the new A350 jet programme
at Broughton, north Wales, and Filton, near Bristol.

MPS is a fee-based business which provides enhanced earnings for the
Morgan Sindall Group by enabling early entry to projects at concept,
planning and design stages.
