CRACKING THE CODE – BWF TO CONDUCT NEXT ROUND OF INSPECTIONS
The British Woodworking Federation’s (BWF) Code of Conduct is
becoming an integral part of the woodworking industry, providing BWF
members with a framework against which they are able to assess their
business and representing to clients the standard of best practice
for woodworking and joinery companies. Having completed the first
round of Code of Conduct inspections, started in 2003, the BWF is
looking towards the next stage in the process, by reviewing the Code
and extending its application to ensure that the performance of
members continues to improve.
The initial assessments looked at whether BWF member companies had
adopted the principles and policies needed to comply with the Code
of Conduct. The second cycle will look more at how these are being
applied, as well as checking if companies have picked up on some of
the regulatory changes introduced in recent years.
The BWF’s Code of Conduct is recognised as the mark of an
organisation committed to the highest customer service,
environmental and quality standards. Achieving the principles set
out in the Code gives members that competitive edge because
consumers, architects and contractors have peace of mind when using
a BWF member company for their joinery needs. And because all
members are required to achieve the standards set out in the Code,
the BWF is dedicated to helping all non compliant members in working
towards achieving the Code’s requirements.

Commenting on the importance of the Code of Conduct, Policy
Executive of the BWF, Matt Mahony, said: “The Code of Conduct has
now become a living, working reality for BWF members, something that
they value and appreciate being associated with. It is not intended
to catch people out or punish them, but instead aims to set the
standards by which anyone can recognise a quality woodworking
business. We aim to assess our members against the standards set out
in our Code of Conduct on a regular basis and, as such, will now be
beginning the next round of inspections which we hope to complete by
2012.“
