WEST YORKSHIRE COMPANY NAMED A NATIONAL FINALIST IN BARCLAYS
COMMERCIAL BANK GREEN LEADERS IN BUSINESS AWARDS
 An innovative company, based in West Yorkshire and known for their
environmentally friendly hoardings has been selected as one of the
Top 12 green business leaders in the 2008 Barclays Commercial Bank
Green Leaders in Business Awards.
The Awards recognise those companies who are using pioneering
processes or new sustainable technology, products or services to
help beat climate change and, crucially, boost their own profits.
Green Leaders in Business was open to all UK and Irish companies,
and has three separate categories – companies with a turnover below
£1m; between £1m and £20m; and above £20m.
Eco Hoardings Ltd competing in the small business category, is now
one of 4 companies in this group hoping to be selected as a Winner
in the Green Leaders in Business Awards.
Eco Hoardings is a new company formed in response to the huge waste
of wood and wood-based products in the construction industry.
Traditionally, the hoardings placed around construction sites to
protect the public are made from wood and plywood which weather
quickly. These tend to shatter when being dismantled and generally
ends up as land fill.
Eco Hoardings offers environmentally friendly alternatives made from
lightweight plastic board that are solid and secure, aesthetically
pleasing, long lasting and recyclable.
One range is made from recycled PVC and another from recycled
supermarket waste, including plastic bags. There are Eco Hoardings,
one of which is fully demountable and uses an innovative fixing
system made from galvanised steel that has withstood winds of over
80 mph.
Although the company has only been operating since the beginning of
this year, it has already attracted considerable interest and
achieved sales of £240,000 for its first quarter, placing it on
track for a £1 million turnover in its first year.
In the meantime Eco Hoardings are working with Dublin’s Airport
Authority to supply environmentally friendly construction hoarding
for their Terminal 2 site. The plastic hoarding is much more
environmentally friendly than timber, which is typically used for
construction site hoardings.
Work is also proceeding on a new, more flexible frame system, a more
rigid board made from supermarket waste and another made from hard
plastic waste such as electrical products.
The company is also researching products made from recycled tyres
and is putting in place a rental scheme for short term construction
projects.

The National Finalists will now be invited to present to an expert
judging panel, chaired by leading environmentalist Tom Burke,
including The Carbon Trust, Bloomberg, and the WWF, who will decide
the winners of the three business categories.

reached the National Finalist phase and we wish them every success

Winners will be revealed before an audience of 250 guests at a gala
luncheon at the East Wintergarden in London on Tuesday 9th
September.
The event will also mark the launch of a limited edition book,
spotlighting the pioneering accomplishments of all the winners and
finalists.
Produced entirely from sustainable sources, it will be sent to
government heads and influential figures around the world, showing
how British business is leading the way in a new industrial
revolution – one that promises to protect and preserve our planet.
