WEATHERITE MANUFACTURING - And SBFI Partnership helps ICM
continuity services stay cool
A new desk cooling system known as the ‘Dual Cool’, designed jointly
by Weatherite Manufacturing Ltd and business partners SBFI with
on-site mechanical services infrastructure being designed and
installed by Weatherite Building Services, has provided flexible,
effective solution for ICM Business Continuity Services.
The Midlands based ICM provides Business Continuity services that
support information systems, infrastructure and workforce and can
protect business from information systems failure and downtime, from
a nationwide network of centres with more than 7,500 workplace
positions,. ICM needed an effective cooling system for their new
95,000 square feet Business Continuity centre located at Farnborough
that would deal with the heat output of computer hardware associated
with high density financial/dealer software and equipment, without
imposing a load on the existing building air conditioning system.
The problem was solved by a desk cooler designed and developed by
Weatherite Manufacturing Limited specifically for fitting within
SBFI desks. Working with ICM engineers, the Weatherite Group in
partnership with SBFI installed the system in two buildings in a
mechanical contract alone worth over £540,000.
Shakil Mughal of Weatherite Manufacturing Limited comments, this was
an ideal opportunity to devise a system that would not only cater
for the additional heat load being introduced into an existing
building structure, but also ensure the processors operate within
tolerable ambient conditions hence improving their efficiency and
life span. At the same time ensuring that all occupant operators
remain comfortable without experiencing additional drafts or noise.
The WBSL supporting chilled water system comprises a 600kW cooling
plant with four 150kW air cooled chillers in two modules, each of
which incorporates primary pumps and controls. With limited plant
space available at the site, Weatherite designed a twin-headed
secondary CW pump system to serve each of two buildings. Pipes in
the floor voids of each building supply the individual desk coolers.
The system offers many advantages to the client and staff in terms
of flexibility, operation and comfort. The chilled water condition
features a 16OC flow which avoids latent cooling, and requires no
internal under-floor pipe insulation.
Brian Taylor of Weatherite Building Services comments, “From the

energy efficiency requirements. It was completed within a very tight
six month deadline, and is supported by a full service and
maintenance package.”
