CME Sanitary Systems, a well-established manufacturer of toilet seats, flushing systems and associated products, has recently supplied its revolutionary Ecoplay micro greywater recycling technology for a new £5.8 million development in Trelai, Cardiff.

Commissioned by the Wales and West Housing Association, the Trelai project involves the creation of 60 new eco-excellence homes. Once complete it will consist of 48 two, three and four bed houses, plus12 bungalows, two of which will have special needs facilities. 22 plots were identified to be served by Ecoplay systems, which collect and clean grey water from showers and baths and recycle it for use in flushing toilets.

Specifying Ecoplay for this project enabled Wales & West HA and Lovell Partnerships Ltd, in conjunction with the Welsh Assembly to reach towards the 70 points required to earn the Trelai site an ‘eco-excellence’ title. These points are awarded by Ecohomes in recognition of a developments green credentials. (Ecohomes’ Independent system of rating for domestic properties only awards an ‘excellence’ title to those properties that can achieve 70 points and above for improvements in design above standard building regulations).

The installation of the Ecoplay systems will also make a significant contribution towards helping the new homes meet the requirements of the Code for Sustainable Homes which became mandatory for new homes in May this year.

The almost maintenance-free Ecoplay units will be installed in ground floor bathrooms - and in several of the houses on the first floor - where they will each provide recycled water to two toilets.
