Alpina slates from leading roofing specialist, Cembrit, have been used at Braemar Lodge care home in Salisbury. The choice of Brazilian slate was made early on and, after considering a number of options, Cembrit’s Alpina was selected for high quality at a competitive price. Accommodating 55 residents, the Lodge was purpose built by Colten Care which also runs the home.

Grey green Alpina slates were used throughout, with close mitred hips wherever possible. Where the roof was too low pitch, Shire Roofing created a bespoke lead cover on a wood roll rather than the more traditional soaker to create the desired finish.

The grey green Alpina slate really complements the building and the end result has been very pleasing.”

Alpina is a natural Brazilian slate, selected from the finest deposits and produced at some of the best facilities in Papagaios, Brazil. It is available in two colours: grey green and graphite and in a variety of sizes. With its flat surface and pleasing shade variations, Alpina slate can be relied upon to create an attractive and long lasting roof. Alpina slate has virtually no unstable minerals such as pyrites, graphite, carbon and un-oxidised irons and will withstand the most severe weather conditions: they are unaffected by sunlight, ultraviolet light and even acid rain. Laid correctly Alpina slate will last the lifetime of the building and are ideal for use on any project.

Using skills built up over 80 years, Cembrit select natural slate from Spain, Canada, Brazil, China, India and the countries of Western Europe. From UK quarries Cembrit offer Welsh, Cornish and Westmorland slates.
