Several children who attend St Mary Magdalene CofE Primary School were given the exciting opportunity to explore Arundel Square as it nears completion.

The school outing was arranged by United House Group, a leading specialist housing construction development company that is developing the Arundel Square project.

The children, aged 6 and 7 years old, were greeted on Friday morning by the team from United House, who provided them with hard hats and high visibility jackets ready for their tour. Excited and keen to see cranes and builders, they were provided with an insight into how a building site operates and the health and safety issues that occur on a construction project.

Upon completion Arundel Square will provide both affordable and luxury accommodation overlooking the square, which will increase in size by approximately a third and will benefit from being newly landscaped for all the local community to enjoy. Out of 146 apartments, 115 will be private sale and 31 for Family Mosaic Housing Association.

After a tour around the site spotting cranes the children were treated to a visit from Ivor Goodsite, the health and safety inspector.

Debbie Shepherd, the teacher of the 29 children that participated in the morning outing, was delighted with the experience that the outing presented. She said: “The day has been absolutely fantastic. It’s been a real life experience for the children and it’s brought home to them the dangers that can occur on a building site. United House has organised a fantastic day for the children and it has been a truly memorable experience.”
