An amazing Sussex company that diverts reusable building materials from landfill has scooped a major contract. Tiger Enterprise Ltd has been working with Berkeley Homes to clear any reusable building materials left following the completion of their sites. Following a discussion with Karl Whiteman, Managing Director of the Berkley Homes Urban Renaissance Division, both companies were very keen on working together as they see that the future for construction must be sustainable. Berkeley Homes is part of the Berkeley Group, a FTSE 250 urban regenerator with a turnover of over £900 million that last year completed over 3,100 houses and flats.

Daniel Hill founded Tiger Enterprise with his wife Charis in November 2006 to tackle the huge amounts of waste from the construction industry going to landfill. The company has grown rapidly in the last 22 months from a small piece of land which they rented for £20 a week, to opening a second yard in Brighton early in 2009.

This is the second major deal Mr Hill has been able to secure in recent months.

Mr Hill said: “It is very important for us to be able to get these larger contracts, especially in today’s financial climate. The construction industry has taken a lot of abuse over the unnecessary waste created during the construction of new developments but there are pioneering companies like Berkeley Homes that see the importance of the industry evolving and becoming more sustainable.

Our company is currently the only one in the UK offering reuse as an alternative to landfill”

The first collection was completed this week at the West 3 development in Acton West London and has saved an estimated 7 tonnes of CO2. Berkeley Homes are hoping to use the service of Tiger Enterprise Ltd for their sites across the South East.

Tiger Enterprise’s green credentials have been boosted by being named a semi-finalist in the 2008 Barclay’s Commercial Bank, Green Leader in Business Award which puts Mr Hill’s company in the UK’s top 25 for it’s environmental service. The award recognises those companies which are using pioneering processes or new sustainable technology, products or services to help beat climate change and crucially boost their own profits.

Tiger Enterprise Ltd has also been nominated for the 2008 Argus Eco awards.
