Dow Building Solutions in the UK has won a prestigious “Product of the Year” award for its FLOORMATE™ 300-A insulation, presented by construction industry magazine, Builder and Engineer.

The award was presented in front of an audience of 500 people from the construction industry, after an opening address from Michael Ankers, Chief Executive of the Construction Products Association during which he stressed the vital role the industry had to play in achieving government sustainability targets.

FLOORMATE 300-A - which is made with new STYROFOAM-A material - is a blue extruded polystyrene foam insulation board manufactured with naturally occurring CO2 as a blowing agent, meaning no additional emission to the atmosphere which would otherwise contribute to climate change.

The product is used to insulate floors from residential to commercial buildings, and is the latest material from Dow Building Solutions’ new STYROFOAM-A foam range to be made available in the UK. It qualifies for the Code for Sustainable Homes’ insulation specification credit.

“We’re seeing increasing interest from specifiers who want to source insulation products that help them meet more stringent thermal efficiency criteria as well as support the environmental credentials of building contractors and developers,” said Jayne Law, UK and Ireland sales manager. “Winning a high profile award such as this helps put products such as FLOORMATE 300-A firmly on the sustainability agenda and gives our customers and distributors confidence that they are making the right choice when they choose a STYROFOAM-A based product.”

Along with low water absorption, ease of installation and excellent insulating properties, FLOORMATE 300-A also has a high design load along with durability, which is particularly important to specifiers looking for proven long term performance.

It has a nominal compressive strength of 300 kN/m2, and a design load (the load which will give maximum compression of 2% over 50 years) of 130 kN/m2. Declaring the design load allows specification against the long term requirements of a building’s floor, as well as built in safety margins.

“We developed FLOORMATE 300-A for people who want not only to increase the energy efficiency of a building, but to have the peace of mind that they are using an insulation product that’s been manufactured in a way that’s better for the environment,” continued Jayne. “That, supported by its proven durability and design load, has led to a great deal of interest from specifiers and installers, and we hope winning this Product of the Year accolade will encourage even more enquiries.”

FLOORMATE 300-A has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of less than five, and is available in three thicknesses, 50mm, 75mm and 100mm.

Dow Building Solutions offers floor insulation products for buildings ranging from residential right the way through to highly loaded cold stores and even very highly loaded floors such as aircraft hangars.
