Bonar Floors, the high performance flooring company, has updated three new RIBA approved Continuing Professional Development (CPD) seminars – and all three count as part of the RIBA core curriculum, helping architects to keep up-to-date with the latest innovations.

The three topics incorporate entrance systems, carpet tiles and electrostatically flocked floorcovering, and are in addition to the existing Westbond ‘manufacturing carpets’ CPD seminar. Entrance systems need to effectively remove dirt and moisture from traffic entering buildings, to both reduce the risk of slip hazards and also protect and prolong the life of the floor finish beyond the entrance. The first of Bonar Floors’ CPD presentations deals with this very subject and ensures the participants leave having understood the importance of entrance matting, the different zones involved, the variable factors in specifications, as well as product types and effectiveness, compliance with BS 8300 DDA and a host of other relevant topics.

The second of the seminars relates to carpet tiles and as they are the chosen flooring in countless offices, banks, education and leisure buildings, they need to be fully understood. “Random-lay”, “batchless”, “cut and loop”, “tip-shear”, “tufted”, “fusion bonded”, “needlepunch”, “multi-height loops”, and “textured” are just some of the terms used daily – all of which need to be fully comprehended before products can be specified correctly. This seminar demystifys the language of carpet tiles, as well as explaining the benefits, trade-offs and situations applicable to the various construction types, and leaves the specifier clear as to the types of products available and the key considerations in selection.

‘Electrostatically flocked floorcovering’ is the final updated seminar and highlights this unique manufacturing process and discusses its advantages. The course will also discuss how new technology is allowing full-scale digital printing, which allows infinite design possibilities in patterns and colours, including detailed logos and large scale photographic reproduction, providing the specifier with information on the unique characteristics of this type of product and the situations in which it could be specified.
