Birmingham based Fusion Building Consultancy has successfully project managed the centrepiece of a major regeneration at the old Jaguar and Daimler site in Radford, Coventry.

The former factory site has been transformed into a thriving ‘urban-village’ style development by Bryant homes following a £20million investment by Advantage West Midlands.

The centrepiece of the urban village is a new £1.05m community centre with a sports hall for Badminton and community activities, which also houses four large changing rooms/showers and function room. Outside three tennis courts double as five-a-side floodlit football pitches and a children’s playground has also been provided.

“This is superb facility for the local community and also one of the largest 106 agreements in the country,” says Nick Young, director of Fusion, who headed up the project management team.

“It has certainly been a substantial scheme for Fusion and one which we have been working on for a number of years with AWM and the many advisors who have helped get this fantastic new community asset off the ground.

“Creating new playground and artificial football pitches presented an interesting and complex challenge to the team and has added to our broad range of skills and experience which also enabled us to ensure the new facilities were as maintenance free as possible.”

The Daimler Green development has emerged from the brownfield site which was sold off by Jaguar in the early 1990’s and subsequently changed ownership to AWM before partnering with Bryant to develop the scheme.

Coventry Youth Service and Sport Development are amongst the first to use the facilities setting up football training on the sports field and the multiuse courts for young local residents. The function room is also being used for regular meetings relating to the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.

“It is great to see the centre being so well used and I know that the former chair of the Daimler Green Recreation Trust, Kuldeep Dhami, who sadly passed away just as the centre opened would be delighted that the usage of the Centre is off to a great start,” adds Nick.

Fusion Building Consultancy was formed in spring 2002 and is based in Ludgate Hill, employing 10 people. It works with a variety of national and local clients on medium to multi-million pound contracts.
