FOOTPRINT BUILDING LAUNCH NEW ‘GREEN’ CONSULTANCY SERVICE FOR ARCHITECTS

Ethically minded building company Footprint Building has launched a new consultancy service for architects interested in offering a range of more eco-friendly and sustainable options to clients.

Footprint Building was launched in April 2008 by a team headed by Bristol based businessman and property developer Ken Aylmer to offer sustainable and ethical building and renovation services to individuals and businesses. The creation of the firm, which also has a sustainable joinery workshop, was driven by Ken’s own desire to limit the environmental impact of his own developments by sourcing sustainable and ecologically sound materials and working with ethical building firms.

The firm’s trade consultancy service, which will be based out of the firm’s showroom in Bristol, has been launched to help the industry meet the demand for a more sustainable approach to building and renovation.

Ken Aylmer, founder and Managing Director, Footprint Building says: “As a property developer I was aware that people are increasingly interested in the concept of creating more ecologically sound homes but aren’t really sure where to start. Similarly architects and trades people are being asked to bring a more sustainable or ethical approach to projects that they are managing on behalf of clients. The ‘eco build’ market is a growing one and those who don’t get up to speed with the latest technologies and processes are at risk of being left behind and missing out on a vital income stream.

Our consultancy service will provide as much, or as little input as needed from simply advising on the best, and most efficient products to ongoing project consultancy or even a full blown project management service.”

The firm also offers a sustainable joinery service, making bespoke, hand-crafted wood products including furniture, folding doors and sash windows, all made out of timber from sustainable or recycled sources. They even offer a tree to table service.

The showroom will provide a range of eco building products and ‘eco’ consultations direct to customers offering tips and advice on everything from insulating homes to installing solar thermal systems. Footprint Building stock a wide range of products including sustainable flooring, environmentally friendly insulation and solar tubes as well as natural paints, non-toxic wood care and ‘green’ cleaning products. Many of these products have been incorporated into the showroom so that contractors and homeowners can see them ‘in action’.
