ISG Jackson has secured a £6.6 million project to upgrade and enhance perinatal facilities at Homerton University Hospital in Hackney, London. The scheme, for client Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, sees the contractor modernise existing Delivery and Neonatal facilities, whilst also building a multi-storey extension to house a new Delivery Suite at the 2012 Olympic designated hospital.

A progressive multi-phased refurbishment programme involves ISG Jackson stripping out, altering and remodelling existing accommodation across the perinatal unit, which remains fully operational throughout the 86-week project. New suspended ceilings will be installed, along with new floor finishes and replacement mechanical and electrical services, as part of a comprehensive fit out and modernisation package carried out to exacting clinical standards.

The new concrete-frame extension building will be constructed on an existing car park area and linked to the hospital via two steel walkways. The structure features under croft car parking and houses a large birthing pool, which ISG Jackson will relocate from the main building during an earlier phase of works. The project is scheduled for completion by spring 2010.
