SCHÜCO - Sliding Window Crucial To Futeristic Swansea Property
Development
 The
first UK installation of a new aluminium sliding window system from
Schüco plays a crucial role in an excitingly contemporary property
development centred around a Grade II listed, 18th century castle in
Swansea, South Wales.
The Clyne Castle site is in a beautiful location mid-way between
Swansea and Mumbles so, when designing the new properties, Holder
Mathias Architects were asked to maximise the spectacular views of
both the castle itself and Swansea Bay. Their response was a series
of futuristic residential properties, seven of which include a
single large rectangular window to the front of the building.
The architects specified the new Schüco RS 70 HPS.HI sliding window
system for these properties because it delivers unbeatable
performance – excellent thermal insulation with a Uw <1.7 W/m2K and
weather-tightness of up 1000 Pascal – in a stylish, slimline frame
with a basic depth of just 70 mm.
When the window is opened, the sliding vent moves outwards and
across the front of the fixed glazing unit. This innovative design
solution means that when closed, the window presents a uniformly
smooth external appearance.
While elegant to look at, RS 70HPS.HI is also extremely robust and
can accommodate large vents measuring up to a maximum 2000 mm wide
and 3000 mm high and weighing up to 180 kg. Moreover, thanks to
rollers mounted on ball bearings, the windows slide very easily – a
key consideration at Clyne Castle, whose owners expect a very high
specification finish throughout.
