Addagrip’s resin bonded aggregate surface Addastone has been used as part of the major restoration of Weston Park, Sheffield.

The project, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, involved extensive restoration of the parks landscape and historic features to return the park to its former glory.

The restoration of the Grade II registered landscape to the period of Robert Marnock’s design (1875) included restoration of the original extensive footpath network and museum terraces, which involved the use of reclaimed natural stone and set edging and resurfacing. Cirencester Civil Engineering laid 7200m² of 3mm Staffordshire grey granite aggregate bonded with Addastone resin to achieve an appearance believed to be similar to that of the original park.

Mark Holland, Landscape Director of Chris Blandford Associates, landscape architects on the project said, “Sheffield City Council was keen to select an aggregate which was similar in colour and texture to the existing surface as well as being functional and hardwearing. Addastone was specified for its success in previous projects as it provides a robust surface that is sympathetic to heritage projects such as the Weston Park restoration.”

Weston Park is a fine example of a Victorian Park and still retains many of its original features. Its character has changed little for over 130 years and the park still provides a welcome oasis of calm in the busy city. As a result of the restoration work, the park has been rejuvenated and now attracts over 500,000 visitors a year, many of whom enjoy the park on their way to visit the recently refurbished and award-winning Weston Park Museum which sits in the park.

Addastone is a two part resin designed to bond aggregates, providing an attractive and hardwearing surface with the texture and appearance of natural loose stone. A wide range of natural and recycled aggregates can be resin bonded to a variety of surfaces making it ideal for heritage sites, landscaping schemes and parks.
