IRONMONGERS AWARDS FOR TWO JACKSON BUILDING CENTRES EMPLOYEES
One of the UK’s leading motivational speakers has presented two top
employees of leading builders merchants Jackson Building Centres
with the awards, diplomas, medals and fantastic cash prizes.
Husband and wife team Claire and Neil Furness, both employees at
Classic Hardware in Leeds, which is owned by Jackson Building
Centres went along to Kensington’s Royal Garden Hotel in London last
month where they were awarded for their educational achievements for
the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI) and celebrated their
success with guest speaker, famous athlete and television
entertainer, Kriss Akabusi.
Kriss Akabusi, now Chief Executive Officer of the Akabusi Company, a
corporate communications and training company, has an infectious
personality and reputation that has made him a very popular public
speaker, hence the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers choice to ask
him to present at this special ceremony.
Classic Hardware employee Claire (24) was presented with her Level 2
Certificate of Achievement in Ironmongery and handed £250.00 for
completing her exam.
Claire said of the award: “I am really delighted to have completed
level 2 of the diploma, and I am looking forward to catching up with
my husband, Neil and completing level 3 next year”.
After the grueling three years study, 27 year old Neil was presented
with his level 3 diploma.
Neil said: “Completing the course means that I am now able to advise
my customers on a much more technical level.
“The course has provided me with a much deeper technical
understanding of the products and how to specify more effectively”.
The Dip GAI qualification is the most highly regarded in the
industry and the only programme in the UK that leads to a
qualification in ironmongery specification, also recognized by the
Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
Peter Robinson, Branch Manager at Classic Hardware said: “We are all
extremely proud of Claire and Neil’s achievements and the hard work
they have both put in to gain the qualifications.”
Neil also came top in his business studies exam and was awarded a
silver medal for his scheduling exam and the Pinnacle Award for
achieving highest aggregate score over the three year period.
Neil added: “I am thrilled to receive the additional awards, and the
£3,000 I received for the Pinnacle Award will go towards a much
deserved holiday in the Maldives”.
The Guild’s education syllabus is unique. It is the only recognised
programme in the UK that leads to a qualification in ironmongery
specification.
After successfully completing the three levels, each student will be
competent to discuss the ironmongery requirements for a project with
a client – be that an architect, a building or joinery contractor, a
building manager or even a homeowner.
No other scheme offers such a broad knowledge and understanding of
ironmongery, leading to the most recognised qualification in the
industry. The GAI is very proud of its record or preparing so many
students for a career in architectural ironmongery over 40+ years.
