Specialist acoustic flooring, wood effect sheet vinyl and decorative, low maintenance heavy duty and safety sheet vinyl flooring – all from commercial flooring specialist Polyflor Ltd – have been installed throughout Ty Coryton, a new residential school for children with severe autism at Whitchurch, Cardiff.

The school, operated by Orbis Education and Care, comprises a complete refurbishment of the original Coryton House plus a new residential wing to accommodate up to 50 residential and day pupils.

The flooring was installed by local contractor Puma Floors who fitted Polyflor Gallery FX Acoustic in the dining hall, Forest FX wood effect in bedrooms, Polyflor 2000 PUR in classrooms, and safety floors Polysafe Corona and Polysafe Vogue Ultra in toilets, Polysafe Hydro in bathrooms and showers with Polysafe Ultima in the school kitchen.

Specially developed to reduce noise pollution and fully compliant with Building Regulation Part E, with a high impact sound reduction level of 19dB, Polyflor Gallery FX Acoustic - in 14 wood, stone and mottled granite effects - is seen as especially suitable for residential areas such as aged-care, social housing and student accommodation and also for heavily trafficked areas in schools and hospitals.

Sophisticated and highly realistic wood designs in an impressive choice of shades and textures are key features of Forest FX which is also targeted primarily at the education and healthcare sectors and offers 14 of the most widely specified wood colours. Both these ranges also feature a polyurethane reinforcement (PUR), which protects the floor during installation and handover and facilitates a polish-free maintenance regime.

Ideal for schools, Polyflor 2000 PUR offers a range of 20 visually refreshing multi-tone shades, each featuring two base shades and two highlight tones. The product features homogeneous monolayer construction for 100% useful life, plus a high quality polyurethane reinforcement which, combined with a superior closed surface finish, can cut maintenance costs by up to 48% by facilitating a low cost, polish-free maintenance regime for the lifetime of the floorcovering.

And Polysafe Corona – in 12 attractive colours – incorporates Supratec+, the second generation of Polyflor’s unique soil releasing polymer system, now including polyurethane for reduced dirt pick up and even easier maintenance. This means that Corona can offer cleaning cost savings of up to 60% over traditional safety flooring over a 15 year period.

Polysafe Vogue Ultra sheet vinyl safety flooring offers a choice of 12 attractive shades and features a surface emboss which hugely improves its cleanability.

Developed for continually wet and barefoot areas, Polysafe Hydro features a special textured “pimple” emboss and an attractive range of eight light, aqueous colours, ideal for walk-in showers, indoor pool surrounds, changing rooms and hydrotherapy areas.

Ideal for heavy-duty areas with intense traffic such as commercial kitchens and food preparation or processing areas, Polysafe Ultima is a tough performer in the Polysafe portfolio, achieving a sustainable slip resistance of 40 on the RRL Pendulum wet test (Four-S/Slider 96 rubber) with a surface roughness reading of over Rz ≥70µm, recommended to cope safely with spillages of olive oil, cooking stock and similar high viscosity contaminants commonly found in kitchen areas.
