Scotland’s leading workplace design specialist Space Solutions is celebrating after securing a number of major contracts totalling in excess of £3m in the Central Belt.

Among the wins is a deal to provide architectural and design services for the refurbishment of the Tannahill Centre in Paisley. The project, which is subject to Lottery funding approval, will see the centre in the Ferguslie district of the town transformed into a state-of-the-art community hub.

Space Solutions has also been appointed as move management consultants for the University of West Scotland’s move to the Ayr Craigie Campus and its operations team was hired by Wood Group to assist its move to its new premises in Glasgow.

Derek Binnie, Director of the company that operates UK-wide to design, build, fit out, refurbish and relocate modern and productive business environments, said the projects, totalling £3.25m since June, is particularly impressive considering the economic slowdown in the UK.

He said: “This has been a particularly busy few months for Space Solutions, with business up 22% on the same period last year.

“Over the last few months the country has been beleaguered by the economic downturn, but we are in the fortunate position to have actually grown and signed some very rewarding and high-profile contracts.

“There are several reasons for this. The services we provide are perfect for businesses reappraising their assets, specifically their premises, whether because of lack of capital or lack of available accommodation.

“We are looking forward to working with these major clients to deliver some excellent office design solutions – as well as continuing to see Space Solutions go from strength to strength.”

Founded in 1997, Space Solutions now has five UK offices in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Peterborough. The £12 million-a-year business was recently shortlisted for an Insider Deal and Dealmaker of the Year Award for Management Buyout (MBO) of the year following a 2007 MBO by directors Steve Judge, Derek Binnie, Kenny Cope and Mark Wilson.

Space Solutions applies the science of space planning and workplace analysis to yield significant business savings and achieve most productive use of property for its clients.

It has also recently signed high-profile contracts with Irvine Housing Association and VisitScotland, as well as continuing work on smaller niche projects and developing its Sustainability Services.
